Meta Engineering participates in road emergency works
During the months of November and December 2014, Meta Engineering has carried out Technical Assistance to the Construction Management of the emergency actions to repair the access roundabout to Santa Coloma de Cervelló (Barcelona, Spain), on the road BV-2002.
Barcelona, January 2015
Under the roundabout at the access to Santa Coloma de Cervelló, a town located near the city of Barcelona, there is an underground channel of an irrigation canal. In October 2014, after significant episodes of rain, the pipeline suffered several breaks at different points, causing the appearance of braziers in the road of the roundabout, which grew in a short space of time, which generated a safety hazard vial.
With the aim of remedying this situation, the Barcelona Provincial Council, the road manager, commissioned the emergency works to a construction company and awarded AudingIntraesa the Technical Assistance for the actions.
The operations carried out have consisted of:
- Demolition of the metal pipe and the road in the affected area.
- Excavation of existing land.
- Execution of a concrete base.
- Placement of a new channel formed by precast concrete modules.
- Backfilling with gravacement.
- Waterproofing and sealing.
- Replacement of the pavement package, drainage elements and signaling and defense.
- Creation of breakwater walls in the canal mouths.
As it is an infrastructure with a significant traffic intensity that could not be closed to the public, these works have had to be carried out, at all times, with the road in service, which has greatly hindered the actions. Likewise, they have been carried out in a very short period of time, which has made it necessary to work in different phases and at night time slots, requiring very careful and precise planning and monitoring of the works.
